Andhra Pradesh Residential Schools were formed in 1972 with an intention to implement the ancient Indian concept of Gurukulam - where kids leave their parents and enter Vidyaalayam, the School in order to learn education, live there, and come out as responsible person in the society, completely trained and shaped by their Gurus- Teachers. In this system, the students and teachers live together in the same campus where students work towards the goal of learning and teachers aim towards the goal of not just teaching but shaping up students by making them highly competitive and responsible citizens. This was the original idea of late Prime Minister Sri. P.V Narasimha Rao, and was implemented effectively in Andhra Pradesh State, which produced great results for several years.
